Archaeologists working against the tides on the log boat pictured in the River Tay estuary at Abernethy near Perth. The boat has been carbon dated to about 1000 BC, the late bronze age. Once the 30 ft long boat made from a single oak tree has been recovered it will be transported to the National Museum of Scotland where it will be conserved.<br />

The boat is loaded into a special crate for its journey to the National Museum of Scotland where it will be freeze dried in order to preserve it. The boat has been carbon dated to about 1000 BC, the late bronze age. It is hoped that the 30 ft long boat made from a single oak tree will be brought back and displayed in Perth's Museum once it has been preserved and studied.<br />

The boat filled with barrels to weigh it down in the watre, is pulled into Newburgh harbour by marine recovery experts before being loaded into a special crate for its journey to the National Museum of Scotland where it will be freeze dried in order to preserve it. The boat has been carbon dated to about 1000 BC, the late bronze age. It is hoped that the 30 ft long boat made from a single oak tree will be brought back and displayed in Perth's Museum once it has been preserved and studied.<br />
